Deerfield Summary

Deerfield, Kansas is a small town located in the south-central part of the state. It is situated in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, and is part of the Manhattan metropolitan area. The town has a population of just over 500 people, and is located in Wabaunsee County.

History

Deerfield was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the nearby Deerfield Creek, which was named for the abundance of deer in the area. The town was originally a farming community, and the first post office was established in 1872.
In the late 19th century, Deerfield was a thriving community with a population of over 500 people. The town had several stores, a hotel, a bank, a newspaper, and a school. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the larger cities of Topeka and Kansas City.
In the early 20th century, the population of Deerfield began to decline as people moved away to larger cities. By the 1950s, the population had dropped to just over 200 people. The town has remained relatively small since then, and the population has remained steady at around 500 people.
