Courtland Summary

History

Courtland, Kansas is a small town located in Republic County, in the north-central part of the state. It was founded in 1872 by a group of settlers from Ohio, who named the town after their hometown of Courtland, Ohio. The town was incorporated in 1887, and has since grown to a population of around 500 people.
The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and hay. In the early 1900s, the town began to diversify its economy, and the first bank was established in 1906.
