Clifton Summary

Clifton, Kansas is a small town located in the northeastern corner of the state, in the county of Clay. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town has a population of just over 500 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Clifton was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the nearby Clifton Creek, which was named after a nearby cliff. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers quickly established a post office, a school, and a church.
In the late 19th century, the town began to grow and prosper. The railroad arrived in 1887, and the town was incorporated in 1889. The town continued to grow and prosper, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving agricultural center.

Geography

Clifton is located in the northeastern corner of Kansas, in Clay County. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town is located about 25 miles from the Nebraska border, and about 50 miles from the Missouri border.
