Burdett is a small town located in Pawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020. The town was founded in 1887 and is named after the Burdett family, who were early settlers in the area.

Geography

Burdett is located at 38°14'25" North, 99°17'45" West (38.240278, -99.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Burdett is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce corn, wheat, and other crops. There are also several small businesses in the town, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 200 people, 79 households, and 57 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,037.2 people per square mile (400.3/km2). There were 86 housing units at an average density of 441.2 per square mile (169.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.50% White, 0.50% Native American, 0.50% Asian, and 1.50% from two or more races.
There were 79 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were non-families. 22.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.
