Beloit Summary

Beloit, Kansas is a small city located in the north-central part of the state, in Mitchell County. It is situated on the banks of the Solomon River, and is the county seat. The city has a population of approximately 3,000 people, and is the largest city in the county.

History

Beloit was founded in 1871, when the Kansas Pacific Railway was built through the area. The city was named after Beloit, Wisconsin, the hometown of one of the railroad's engineers. The city was incorporated in 1872, and the first post office was established in 1873.
In the late 19th century, Beloit was a bustling agricultural center, with a variety of businesses and industries. The city was home to a number of flour mills, a creamery, a brickyard, a canning factory, and a number of other businesses.
