Alta Vista is located in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, which is characterized by rolling hills and grasslands. The town is situated in the northern part of Wabaunsee County, and is bordered by the towns of Paxico and Maple Hill to the north, and Alma to the south. The town is located at an elevation of 1,068 feet above sea level, and is situated on the banks of the Kansas River. The town is located approximately 30 miles west of Topeka, the state capital.
