Springport is a small town located in Madison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Anderson, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
The area that is now Springport was first settled in 1820 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was originally known as Springport Station, named after the nearby spring. The town was officially incorporated in 1871.
Geography
Springport is located at 40°19'45"N 85°45'45"W (40.329167, -85.7625). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.
Economy
The economy of Springport is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a hog farm, and a grain farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a grocery store, and a hardware store.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,543.6 people per square mile (595.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
