Rosedale Summary
Rosedale is a small town located in Parke County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the western part of the state, about 40 miles west of Indianapolis. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.
History
Rosedale was founded in 1837 by William Rose, who had moved to the area from Ohio. The town was originally known as Roseville, but the name was changed to Rosedale in 1845. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Rosedale was a major stop on the Indianapolis and Vincennes Railroad, which ran through the town from 1853 to 1871. The railroad brought many new settlers to the area, and the town grew rapidly. By the late 19th century, Rosedale had become a thriving agricultural center, with several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a sawmill.
Geography
Rosedale is located at 39°45'25" North, 87°17'45" West (39.756944, -87.295833). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Rosedale's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a sawmill. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,822.5 people per square mile (704.3/km2). There were 486 housing units at an average density of 811.7 per square mile (313.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
