Mount Summit Summary

Mount Summit is a small town located in Henry County, Indiana. It is situated in the east-central part of the state, about 40 miles east of Indianapolis. The town has a population of approximately 500 people, and is part of the Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Mount Summit was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the nearby summit of a hill, which was the highest point in the area. The town was originally a farming community, and the first post office was established in 1845.
In the late 19th century, the town began to grow and develop. The first school was built in 1876, and the first church was built in 1877. The town also had a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a grist mill.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline. The population decreased, and many of the businesses closed. In the 1950s, the town was revitalized with the construction of a new school and the opening of a new post office.
