Montezuma, Indiana is a small town located in Parke County, Indiana. It is situated in the western part of the state, approximately 40 miles west of Indianapolis. The town was founded in 1837 and is named after the Aztec emperor, Montezuma. As of the 2010 census, the population of Montezuma was 1,037.

Geography

Montezuma is located at 39°45'N 87°14'W (39.75, -87.23). It is situated in the western part of Parke County, Indiana, approximately 40 miles west of Indianapolis. The town is located on the banks of the Wabash River, which forms the border between Indiana and Illinois. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

Economy

Montezuma’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including the Montezuma Dairy Farm, which produces milk and other dairy products. The town also has a few small businesses, including a hardware store, a grocery store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Montezuma was 1,037. The racial makeup of the town was 97.3% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
