Milton Summary

Milton, Indiana is a small town located in Wayne County, Indiana. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, approximately 40 miles east of Indianapolis. The town has a population of approximately 1,400 people and is part of the Richmond, Indiana metropolitan area.

History

Milton was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the poet John Milton, and the first post office was established in 1838. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Milton was a small farming community for much of its history. In the late 19th century, the town was home to several small businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, and a blacksmith shop. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the larger cities of Richmond and Indianapolis.
In the early 20th century, Milton began to experience a period of growth. The town was home to several factories, including a furniture factory, a canning factory, and a brickyard. The town also had a movie theater, a bank, and several churches.

Geography

Milton is located in the eastern part of Wayne County, Indiana. It is situated on the banks of the Whitewater River, approximately 40 miles east of Indianapolis. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
