History

Lebanon was founded in 1832 by William and Mary Hollingsworth. The town was named after the Biblical city of Lebanon, which is mentioned in the Bible. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for manufacturing and industry. The first railroad line in Boone County was built in Lebanon in 1852. This allowed the town to become a major hub for the surrounding area.
In the late 19th century, Lebanon was a major center for the production of brick and tile. The town was also home to several other industries, including a flour mill, a furniture factory, and a canning factory.
In the early 20th century, Lebanon was a major center for the production of automobiles. The first automobile factory in Boone County was built in Lebanon in 1908. The town was also home to several other automobile-related businesses, including a parts factory and a body shop.

Lebanon is located at 39°59'N 86°25'W (39.983, -86.417). According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 8.3 square miles (21.5 km2), of which 8.2 square miles (21.3 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

As of the 2010 census, there were 15,792 people, 6,541 households, and 4,092 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,919.2 people per square mile (739.3/km2). There were 6,945 housing units at an average density of 845.2 per square mile (326.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.2% White, 2.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.3% of the population.
There were 6,541 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,945, and the median income for a family was $50,945. Males had a median income of $37,945 versus $27,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.
