Goodland Summary

Goodland is a small town located in Newton County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, near the Illinois border. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Goodland was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Goodland family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Goodland was a major stop on the Monon Railroad, which ran from Chicago to Louisville. The railroad was a major factor in the town's growth and development. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.

Geography

Goodland is located at 41°17'25"N 87°17'45"W (41.290278, -87.295833). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Economy

Goodland's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to a number of farms, which produce corn, soybeans, wheat, and other crops. The town also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
