Daleville Summary
Daleville is a small town located in Delaware County, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Muncie, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census.
History
Daleville was founded in 1837 by William Dale, a Quaker from North Carolina. The town was originally called Daleville, but was later changed to Daleville. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Daleville was a major stop on the Indianapolis and Cincinnati Railroad, which ran through the town from 1853 to 1871. The railroad brought many new settlers to the area, and Daleville quickly grew into a thriving community.
In the late 19th century, Daleville was home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory. The town also had a bank, a hotel, and several stores.

Daleville is located at 40°25'25" North, 85°30'45" West (40.423, -85.512). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,945 people, 790 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,621.7 people per square mile (625.3/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 705.8 per square mile (272.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 790 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.
