Claypool Summary

Claypool is a small town located in Kosciusko County, Indiana. It is situated in the northern part of the state, about 20 miles south of the Michigan border. The town was founded in 1837 and was named after the Claypool family, who were early settlers in the area. The population of Claypool was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Claypool is located at 41°17'25"N 85°45'45"W (41.290278, -85.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Claypool is a small rural community with a limited economy. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The town also has a post office and a bank. The town is also home to a few manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,817.5 people per square mile (700.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 781.7 per square mile (301.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
