Brookston is a small town located in White County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, approximately 20 miles north of Lafayette and 40 miles south of South Bend. The population of Brookston was 1,092 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Brookston was first settled in the early 1830s by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally known as "Hog Eye" due to the abundance of wild hogs in the area. In 1837, the town was renamed Brookston after the nearby creek. The town was officially incorporated in 1867.

Brookston is located at 40°51'25"N 86°45'45"W (40.856944, -86.7625). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all land.

Economy

The economy of Brookston is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including the Brookston Grain Company, which is one of the largest grain producers in the state. The town also has a few small businesses, including a hardware store, a grocery store, and a few restaurants.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,092 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,213.3 people per square mile. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
