Brooker Summary

Brooker is a small town located in Bradford County, Florida. It is situated in the north-central part of the state, approximately 25 miles south of Gainesville and 40 miles west of Jacksonville. The town has a population of approximately 500 people and covers an area of 0.3 square miles.

History

The area that is now known as Brooker was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of settlers from Georgia. The town was originally known as “Brooker Station” and was named after the local postmaster, John Brooker. The town was officially incorporated in 1891 and was primarily a farming community. In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop, with the construction of a railroad line and the opening of a general store.
