Axis Summary
Axis
Axis is a small town located in the state of Alabama in the United States. It is situated in Mobile County and is part of the Mobile metropolitan area. The town has a population of approximately 2,000 people and is located about 25 miles north of Mobile.
History
Axis was founded in 1819 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Mobile. The town was originally known as “Axis Station” and was a stop on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The town was officially incorporated in 1887 and was named after the nearby Axis Creek.
The town was a major agricultural center in the early 20th century, with cotton, corn, and peanuts being the main crops grown in the area. The town also had a thriving lumber industry, with several sawmills located in the area.
