White Lake Summary

White Lake is a small village located in Langlade County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Antigo Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

White Lake was first settled in 1876 by a group of German immigrants. The village was named after the nearby White Lake, which was named for its white sand bottom. The first post office was established in 1877. The village was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

White Lake is located at 45°25'17" North, 89°2'17" West (45.4214, -89.0381). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

White Lake is a small village with a limited economy. The main industries are tourism, agriculture, and forestry. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 790.3 people per square mile (305.7/km2). There were 227 housing units at an average density of 327.3 per square mile (126.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.18% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
There were 213 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.9% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.13.
