Vesper Summary

History
Vesper was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Grand Rapids. The town was named after the nearby Vesper Creek, which was named after the Latin word for evening, “vesper”. The first settlers were mostly farmers and loggers, and the town quickly grew to become a thriving community.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a cheese factory. The town also had a post office, a school, and a church.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the logging industry moved away and the population began to decline. The town was eventually annexed by the city of Wisconsin Rapids in the 1950s.

Vesper is located at 44°25′17″N 89°51′45″W (44.421445, -89.862445). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Vesper’s economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station. The town also has a number of small farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and hay.
The town is also home to a number of tourist attractions, including the Vesper Historical Society Museum, the Vesper Country Club, and the Vesper Golf Course.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,203.3 people per square mile (464.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 517.2 per square mile (199.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945. About 5.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.
