Turtle Lake Summary

Turtle Lake is a village located in Barron County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,068 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rice Lake Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Turtle Lake was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The village was originally known as "Turtle Lake Station" and was a stop on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway. The village was officially incorporated in 1891.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Turtle Lake is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a gas station, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of small manufacturing companies.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,068 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.2 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 391.2 per square mile (150.9/km2).
