Turtle Lake Summary
Turtle Lake is a village located in Barron County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,068 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rice Lake Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Turtle Lake was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The village was originally known as "Turtle Lake Station" and was a stop on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway. The village was officially incorporated in 1891.

Turtle Lake is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a gas station, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of small manufacturing companies.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,068 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.2 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 391.2 per square mile (150.9/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.09% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.56% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
