History

Star Prairie was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Star Prairie Station" due to its location on the St. Croix and Mississippi Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1876.

Star Prairie is located at 45°17'25"N 92°37'45"W (45.290278, -92.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,213.3 people per square mile (468.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
