Saukville Summary
Saukville is a village located in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,541 at the 2010 census. Saukville is located on the Milwaukee River, about 20 miles north of Milwaukee.
History
Saukville was first settled in 1845 by German immigrants. The village was originally known as “Saukville Station”, named after the Sauk Indians who lived in the area. The village was officially incorporated in 1892.
In the early 1900s, Saukville was a thriving industrial center, with several factories and mills located along the Milwaukee River. The village was also home to a number of small businesses, including a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
In the 1950s, Saukville began to experience a decline in its industrial base. Many of the factories and mills closed, and the village’s population began to decline. In the late 1970s, the village began to experience a resurgence, as new businesses and industries moved into the area.

Saukville is located at 43°22′17″N 87°59′45″W (43.371445, -87.995890). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Saukville’s economy is largely based on manufacturing and retail. The village is home to several factories and mills, including a paper mill, a plastics factory, and a metal fabrication plant. The village is also home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and service providers.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 3,541 people, 1,521 households, and 945 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,611.4 people per square mile (621.7/km2). There were 1,619 housing units at an average density of 730.9 per square mile (282.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $62,917. Males had a median income of $45,000 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,945. About 3.2% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
