Rudolph was first settled in 1854 by a group of German immigrants. The village was named after Rudolph Schmieder, one of the original settlers. The village was incorporated in 1876.

In the early 20th century, Rudolph began to transition away from the lumber industry. The village became a center for agriculture, with many of the residents working in the dairy industry.

Rudolph is located at 44°25'N 89°59'W. The village is situated on the banks of the Wisconsin River, approximately 10 miles south of Wisconsin Rapids. The village has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
