Mount Hope Summary

History

Mount Hope is a small village located in the town of Mount Hope in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. The village was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the nearby Mount Hope Cemetery, which was established in 1854. The cemetery was named after the nearby Mount Hope Church, which was built in 1853.
The village of Mount Hope was originally a farming community, with many of the settlers growing wheat, corn, and other crops. The village also had a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. In the late 1800s, the village began to grow and develop, with the addition of a post office, a school, and a railroad station.
