Milladore Summary

Milladore is a small unincorporated community located in the town of Milladore in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was estimated to be around 200 people in 2000.

History

Milladore was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The town was named after the nearby Milladore Creek, which was named after a Native American chief. The first post office was established in 1883.
In the early 1900s, the town was a thriving agricultural community. The main crops grown were potatoes, corn, and hay. The town also had a sawmill, a cheese factory, and a general store.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as many of the residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. The sawmill and cheese factory closed, and the general store was sold.

Geography

Milladore is located in the north-central part of Wood County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the banks of the Milladore Creek, which flows through the town. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
The town is located about 10 miles south of Wisconsin Rapids and about 25 miles north of Stevens Point. The nearest major city is Wausau, which is about 40 miles away.

Economy

The economy of Milladore is largely based on agriculture. The main crops grown in the area are potatoes, corn, and hay. There are also several small businesses in the town, including a gas station, a restaurant, and a grocery store.
