Merrillan Summary
Merrillan is a village located in Jackson County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Black River Falls Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Merrillan was founded in 1856 by William Merrill, a lumberman from Maine. He named the village after himself. The village was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Merrillan was a major lumbering center. The village was home to several sawmills, a planing mill, and a shingle mill. The Merrillan Lumber Company was the largest employer in the village.

Merrillan's economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 224 families residing in the village. The population density was 704.2 people per square mile (272.2/km2). There were 369 housing units at an average density of 307.5 per square mile (118.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 339 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
