Mellen Summary

Mellen is a small village located in Ashland County, Wisconsin. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, near the border of Minnesota and Michigan. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

History

Mellen was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Mellenville. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life. The village was named after the nearby Mellenville, which was named after the first settler, John Mellen. The village was incorporated in 1887 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
