Mazomanie is a village located in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Mazomanie was founded in 1854 by William and Mary Ann (Henderson) Mazomine. The village was named after William, who was of French descent. The village was incorporated in 1872.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Mazomanie is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The village also has a few industrial businesses, including a plastics manufacturer and a printing company.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,541 people, 602 households, and 393 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,269.2 people per square mile (490.2/km2). There were 622 housing units at an average density of 514.3 per square mile (198.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.58% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.91% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
