Markesan, Wisconsin is a small city located in Green Lake County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the Fox River, about 40 miles northeast of Madison. The city has a population of 2,541 people, according to the 2010 census.
Markesan was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after Markesan, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The city was incorporated in 1856.

Geography

Markesan is located at 43°30'N 89°14'W (43.50, -89.23). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
The Fox River runs through the city, and there are several small lakes in the area. The city is located in the Central Plain region of Wisconsin, and is part of the Fox Valley.
