Maribel Summary

Maribel, Wisconsin is a small village located in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the western shore of Lake Michigan, about 25 miles north of Green Bay. The village has a population of about 500 people and is part of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Maribel was founded in 1848 by a group of German immigrants who had come to the area in search of a better life. The village was named after the daughter of one of the settlers, Maribel Schuette. The settlers built a sawmill and a gristmill, and the village quickly grew. By the late 1800s, Maribel had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a cheese factory.
In the early 1900s, Maribel was a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to enjoy the lake and the nearby beaches. The village also had a thriving fishing industry, with many of the local fishermen selling their catch to the local canneries.
