Knapp Summary

Knapp is a village located in Dunn County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Knapp was founded in 1883 by William Knapp, a lumberman from New York. He purchased land in the area and built a sawmill, which became the center of the village. The village was incorporated in 1891.
The village was originally a logging town, but it later became a farming community. The Knapp Creamery was established in 1894 and was a major employer in the village until it closed in the 1950s.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Knapp is a small rural village with a population of 545 people. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station. The village also has a post office and a bank.
The village is also home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and hay.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 778.6 people per square mile (301.3/km2). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 324.3 per square mile (125.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
