Knapp Summary

History
Knapp was founded in 1883 by William Knapp, a lumberman from New York. He purchased land in the area and built a sawmill, which became the center of the village. The village was incorporated in 1891.
The village was originally a logging town, but it later became a farming community. The Knapp Creamery was established in 1894 and was a major employer in the village until it closed in the 1950s.

There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
