Gotham Summary
Gotham is a city located in Wisconsin, United States. It is the county seat of Grant County and is situated on the Wisconsin River. The city has a population of approximately 8,000 people and is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Gotham was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after the fictional city of Gotham in the Batman comics. The city was originally a trading post and was known as “Gotham’s Landing”. In 1848, the city was officially incorporated and the name was changed to Gotham.
In the late 19th century, Gotham was a major center for the lumber industry. The city was home to several sawmills and lumber yards. The city also had a thriving agricultural industry, with many farmers growing corn, wheat, and other crops.
In the early 20th century, Gotham began to experience a decline in its economy. The lumber industry had moved away and the city’s population began to decline. In the 1950s, the city began to experience a resurgence in its economy. The city was home to several manufacturing companies, including a paper mill and a furniture factory.
