Cumberland Summary

Cumberland is a city located in Barron County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rice Lake Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cumberland was founded in 1883 by the Wisconsin Central Railroad. The city was named after the Cumberland River in Tennessee. The first settlers arrived in 1884 and the city was incorporated in 1887.

Cumberland is home to several businesses, including a lumber mill, a cheese factory, and a paper mill. The city also has a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other services.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,719 people, 1,093 households, and 717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,233.2 people per square mile (476.2/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 535.2 per square mile (206.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
