Cornell, Wisconsin is a small city located in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the Chippewa River, and is part of the Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of 2,845 as of the 2010 census, and is the county seat of Chippewa County.
History
The area that is now Cornell was first settled in the late 1840s by a group of settlers from New York. The settlement was originally known as “New York Corners”, and was later renamed to Cornell in 1856. The city was officially incorporated in 1872.
Cornell was an important center of commerce in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city was home to several sawmills, a flour mill, a brickyard, and a number of other businesses. The city was also home to a number of churches, including the First Congregational Church, which was founded in 1872.

Cornell is located at 44°51'N 91°25'W (44.851, -91.417). The city is situated on the Chippewa River, and is part of the Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
Economy
Cornell’s economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large farms, as well as a number of small businesses. The city is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a paper mill, a wood products plant, and a plastics factory.

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,288.6 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
