Combined Locks Summary

Combined Locks is a village in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Appleton, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Combined Locks was first settled in 1848 by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as "Klein's Lock" after the locks that were built on the Fox River in 1851. The locks were built to allow boats to travel between Lake Winnebago and the Fox River. The locks were later renamed "Combined Locks" after the locks were combined with a dam in 1872.
The village was officially incorporated in 1891. In the early 1900s, the village was a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the Fox River and Lake Winnebago. The village was also home to several factories, including a paper mill, a flour mill, and a brickyard.

The economy of Combined Locks is largely based on manufacturing and tourism. The village is home to several factories, including a paper mill, a flour mill, and a brickyard. The village is also a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the Fox River and Lake Winnebago.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,711 people, 690 households, and 463 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,420.3 people per square mile (548.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.35% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races.
