Coloma Summary

Coloma is a small village located in Waushara County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wautoma Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Coloma was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Coloma, Michigan, which was named after the Spanish word for “dove”. The first post office was established in 1856.
The village was incorporated in 1876. In the late 19th century, Coloma was a major center for the lumber industry. The village was also home to a number of sawmills, gristmills, and other businesses.

As of the census of 2010, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 233 families residing in the village. The population density was 690.4 people per square mile (266.7/km2). There were 369 housing units at an average density of 305.8 per square mile (118.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races.
