Cochrane Summary

Cochrane, Wisconsin is a small village located in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 25 miles south of La Crosse. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the La Crosse-Onalaska Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cochrane was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Scottish town of the same name. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The village was incorporated in 1872 and quickly became a thriving agricultural community.
In the late 19th century, the village was home to a number of industries, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a creamery, and a cheese factory. The village also had a number of stores, a hotel, and a post office.

Geography

Cochrane is located in the western part of Buffalo County, Wisconsin. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 25 miles south of La Crosse. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and is located in the Driftless Area, a region of the Midwest that was not affected by the last glacial period.
The village has a total area of 0.8 square miles, all of which is land. The village is located in the Central Time Zone and has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and hot, humid summers.

Economy
