Chaseburg is a village located in Vernon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the La Crosse-Onalaska, WI-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Chaseburg was founded in 1856 by William Chase, a settler from New York. The village was named after him. The first post office was established in 1858. The village was incorporated in 1876.

The economy of Chaseburg is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several dairy farms, as well as a few small businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 602.2 people per square mile (232.3/km2). There were 224 housing units at an average density of 246.7 per square mile (95.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.90% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.55% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.5% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.
