Bonduel Summary

Bonduel is a village located in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shawano, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Bonduel was first settled in 1848 by a group of French-Canadian immigrants. The village was named after a French-Canadian settler, Joseph Bonduel. The village was incorporated in 1883.

Economy

The economy of Bonduel is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several dairy farms, as well as a number of other agricultural businesses. The village also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,541 people, 602 households, and 431 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,269.2 people per square mile (489.2/km2). There were 635 housing units at an average density of 522.3 per square mile (201.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.13% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
