Big Bend Summary
Big Bend is a village located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
History
Big Bend was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Big Bend Corners" due to its location at the intersection of two roads. The village was officially incorporated in 1892.
Geography
Big Bend is located at 43°7′17″N 88°14′17″W (43.121400, -88.238100). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Big Bend is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a printing company.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,945 people, 1,093 households, and 809 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,334.1 people per square mile (515.7/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 527.3 per square mile (203.5/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $60,938, and the median income for a family was $68,958. Males had a median income of $45,938 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,945. About 2.2% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
