Bagley is a small town located in Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Platteville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Bagley was founded in 1856 by William Bagley, a settler from New York. The town was originally called Bagleyville, but the name was changed to Bagley in 1858. The town was incorporated in 1875.
Geography
Bagley is located at (42.814, -90.717). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Bagley is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several dairy farms, as well as a number of small businesses. The town also has a small manufacturing sector, with several small factories producing a variety of products.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 379.2 per square mile (146.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.54% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
