Augusta Summary

Augusta, Wisconsin is a small city located in Eau Claire County, in the western part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Chippewa River, and is part of the Eau Claire metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 2,500 people, and is the county seat of Eau Claire County.

History

Augusta was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after Augusta, Maine, and was incorporated in 1872. The city was originally a lumber town, and the lumber industry was the main source of income for the city. In the late 19th century, the city was also home to a number of factories, including a paper mill, a flour mill, and a sawmill.
In the early 20th century, the city began to diversify its economy, and the lumber industry began to decline. The city began to attract new businesses, such as a canning factory, a creamery, and a cheese factory. The city also became a popular tourist destination, and the city's downtown area was revitalized in the 1950s.
