Amberg Summary

Amberg is a village located in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Marinette, WI–MI Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Amberg was founded in 1883 by a group of German immigrants. The village was named after Amberg, Germany, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the village grew slowly. In the early 1900s, the village was home to a number of small businesses, including a sawmill, a cheese factory, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the 1920s, the village began to grow more rapidly. The first school was built in 1921, and the first bank opened in 1923. The village was incorporated in 1925.
In the 1950s, the village began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The population increased from 500 in 1950 to 1,000 in 1960. The village was home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a lumber yard, and a gas station.

Amberg’s economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The village is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a lumber yard, and a gas station. The village also has a number of restaurants and bars.
The village is also home to a number of small manufacturing companies, including a woodworking shop, a metal fabrication shop, and a printing company.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 233 families residing in the village. The population density was 703.3 people per square mile (271.3/km2). There were 369 housing units at an average density of 306.3 per square mile (118.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 339 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
