Allenton is a village located in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

History

Allenton was founded in 1845 by German immigrants who were looking for a place to settle and farm. The village was named after the Allenton family, who were among the first settlers. The village was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Allenton is located at 43°17'25"N 88°7'25"W (43.290278, -88.123611). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Allenton's economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including dairy, beef, and poultry farms. The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 725 housing units at an average density of 604.2 per square mile (233.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
