Tyndall Summary

Tyndall is a small town located in Bon Homme County, South Dakota. It is situated along the Missouri River, approximately 20 miles south of Sioux Falls. The town was founded in 1881 and was named after the first postmaster, William Tyndall. The population of Tyndall was 1,093 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Tyndall is located at 43°17'17" North, 97°37'45" West (43.288, -97.629). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Tyndall is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,213.3 people per square mile (468.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 522.2 per square mile (201.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
