Newell Summary

Newell is located at 44°37′N 103°37′W (44.619, -103.619). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
History
Newell was founded in 1883 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. The town was named after the railroad's president, William Newell. The town was incorporated in 1887.

The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
