Colman Summary

Colman is a small city located in Moody County, South Dakota, United States. It is situated along the Big Sioux River, approximately 10 miles east of Sioux Falls. The city has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

Colman was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the railroad's president, William Colman. The railroad was instrumental in the development of the city, as it provided transportation for settlers and goods.
The city was incorporated in 1883 and was home to a variety of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumber yard, and a hotel. The city also had a newspaper, the Colman Herald, which was published from 1883 to 1891.
In the early 1900s, the city experienced a period of growth, with the construction of a new school, a bank, and a post office. The city also had a variety of churches, including the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Congregational Church, and the Catholic Church.

Geography

Colman is located at 43°37'45"N 96°37'45"W (43.62917, -96.62917). The city is situated along the Big Sioux River, approximately 10 miles east of Sioux Falls.
The city has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills.

Economy
