Centerville Summary

Centerville, South Dakota is a small town located in Turner County, South Dakota. It is situated on the Big Sioux River, approximately 20 miles south of Sioux Falls. The town was founded in 1881 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Centerville was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Iowa. The town was named after the nearby Centerville Township, which was named after the nearby Centerville Creek. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a trading center for the surrounding area. The first post office was established in 1883 and the first school was built in 1884.
The town grew steadily throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
