Bridgewater Summary

Bridgewater, South Dakota is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state. It is situated in the heart of the Missouri River Valley, and is surrounded by rolling hills and lush farmland. Bridgewater is a rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people.

History

Bridgewater was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The town was named after the nearby Bridgewater Township, which was named after the town of Bridgewater in England. The settlers were attracted to the area by the fertile soil and the abundance of natural resources.
The town quickly grew and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural center. The town was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a flour mill, and a lumber yard. The town also had a hotel, a bank, a post office, and several churches.
In the early 1900s, Bridgewater was also home to a large German-American population. Many of the town’s residents were of German descent, and the town had a large German-American school.

Bridgewater is located in the southeastern corner of South Dakota, in the heart of the Missouri River Valley.
